Hello all, I have been reading up on ant biology and one of the books mentions a sort of ant tongue and went on to talk about ants licking things.
Has anyone ever seen an ant mouth? I've only seen one up-close of the mouth and it was to hairy to distinguish anything.
Any photographers here that might have pics?

I have no pics but I seen an ant tongue before when I was dissecting on one of them.

All hymenopterans have segmented tentacle hairs that soak up fluids.

Those "tongues" are called maxillary palps. Myrmecocystus sp. have an elongated form of them.

They don't perform trophollaxis with the maxilary palps, I think they perfom it with the Labrum/labium.
