Ever since starting the hobby, I was kindly introduced to this book by James Trager who told me it would be instrumental to helping me identify ants on the East end. Unfortunately at the time I was a very broke university student who couldn't even afford her own textbooks for school and so had to satisfy herself with viewing an online copy from her university library. Fast forward to now and I finally bought a copy of my own. This is a milestone to me since I've always wanted a copy of my own.
This book is AMAZING at listing out the eastern ant species and detailing exactly what to look for when identifying them with pictures, diagrams, and texts outlining habitat, geographic range, history, and look-alikes. This book has been exceedingly instrumental in teaching myself how to identify the ants in my area.
If you love Eastern North American ants, I highly recommend purchasing this book yourself.
