So I found a couple queens of a species I sdm unfamiliar with. I was out hunting for Solenopsis xyloni when these beauties fell into my grasp. I would appreciate help in identifying given.

1. Location (on a map) of collection: Thousand Oaks, CA
2. Date of collection: july 23, 2019
3. Habitat of collection: parking lot
4. Length (from head to gaster): 24/64 inch
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: dark (black?), shiny, smooth. No hair as far as I can tell
6. Distinguishing characteristics: NA
7. Distinguishing behavior: I have two queens, both laid eggs and have decided to keep their wings
8. Nest description: NA

9. Nuptial flight time and date: NA

Sounds like a medium sized, black ant.   There is no picture.  Also, please provide a measurement in millimeters if possible.    Oh, and , what do you mean by "fell into my grasp"? All of these help when trying to ID an ant.     Oh, you edited the post, good job.  Ponerinecat is right, it is a Crematogaster species.

Cool I've never kept a Crematogaster sp. ant before. I'll have to do some research on housing, feeding, temp, etc, but I at least can see that they are fully-claustral so I have some time to figure it out.

Thanks! Any advice where to look for general care for this genus? There is a care sheet but that guy is in Maryland and probably has a different species.

All Crematogaster are very similar
