1. Location of collection: Arroyo Seco Creekbed, Pasadena, CA
2. Date of collection:  3-28-2015.
3. Habitat of collection:  Sandy, dry creek
4. Length (from head to gaster):  ~4 mm.
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture:  Black
6. Distinguishing characteristics: Pointed gaster
7. Anything else distinctive: 
8. Nest description: Half-mound (similar to Pogonomyrmex)

That's what I'm thinking. Something in the Eremnocystus subgenus. I've probably seen the same species before along the San Gabriel River.

Definitely Eremnocystus, not sure which one though.
