Hello all !!

Even though my colony still is only my Queen and 14-16 eggs, i dream about making them a formicarium that resembles the woods where i collected them (i know it is impossible but still )

 

I'm thinking of using a 80 liter aquarium, and put a piece of a treetrunk 1/4 with bark and all, and clue it to one of the glass ends.
My question is, should i take a piece of dead wood, or can i use a piece of fresh wood, and let it decay over time?

I'm leaning towards a new piece of tree, and add some chunks of dead/decaying wood and bark to add the bacteria and mini-life that lives in the wild... Any inputs? all is welcome, and i know i won't need it for 2-3 years

I would say if the wood is fresh, they would probably need a temp home?! I dought they would instantly move into the fresh wood.

 

They would build into it over time....and To be honest I feel like this would take years to achieve.

 

I think the biggest struggle with having such a natural home would be humidity and a way to control the water gradient in the wood.

 

You would need a place for the queen to go with the fresh wood.

 

So, it is highly possible you could drill a hole inside!  

 

 

all in all I think this process could take very long
