ID Request for two different queens

 

QUEEN #1

  1. Location - Top of Crown Mountain, North Vancouver, BC, Canada
  2. Collection Date - August 5, 2019
  3. Habitat - was crawling around on the rock face
  4. Length - 5-6mm
  5. Coloration -  hairy from back of thorax to end of gaster, dark head, mostly brown in color, yellow legs and antennae
  6. Dist Char - 2 petiole, 12 antennal segments, 2 spines out the top thorax
  7. crawls steadily, not slow nor fast
  8. probably foraging along the rock face

QUEEN #2

  1. Location - Top of Crown Mountain, North Vancouver, BC, Canada
  2. Collection Date - August 5, 2019
  3. Habitat - mountainous, dry dirt area, some shrubs
  4. Length - 10mm
  5. Coloration -  black gaster, red mid section with V or H section on top, head is red with 3 dots forming triangle
  6. Dist Char - 1 petiole, 12 antennal segments
  7. fast moving, aggressive workers (bite)
  8. was hanging around the shaded side of the mountain rock faces waiting for flight time
  9. nuptial flight was occurring that day

I'm new to this as of May 2017 and I'd have to say that this site is such an amazing resource. Having pros helping to ID ants is incredible and super helpful.  I will be applying to GAN Project for Vancouver (lower mainland) once I have some worker colonies as per Ants Canada.

Queen #1 is a Myrmica sp., as you probably already know. I'm not very good at identifying them.

Queen #2 is Formica aserva.
