Guess what y'all? It's time to start this journal! I caught the Queen on April 23rd in Anne Arundel County Park. She was on a walking path that winds through the park and around a couple ponds.

We, my friend and myself, got her home and set her up in a nice Test Tube setup and and he took her home to keep her in a nice quiet dark place.

This is her at Capture. Also my avatar.

SO........... why start the journal now?

'Cause over the weekend she laid 6 eggs and as of today there are 11!!

:yahoo:  :yahoo:  :yahoo:  :yahoo:  :yahoo:  :yahoo:  :yahoo:  :yahoo:  :yahoo:  :yahoo:

I am so stoked right now!!!!!!!

Here is her gorgeous self with eggs!!

Well my snake is atop my dresser, and she has a heat mat above a drawer, so the air is being heated, and is the most safe and effective way to heat ants.

Ok so now there are 2 C. Pennsylvanicus Queens!  :yahoo:  :yahoo:  :yahoo:

The first (Posted Above) is kept by a friend and I don't get regular updates. Last I was told the eggs weren't much bigger or anything than last time. we discussed plans to bring her to me as I can provide a warmer area to keep her.

This is the new Queen!! Captured just today at my friends daughters Pre-School. She was captured in a Starbucks cup and I have since set her up in a Test Tube Setup. She is covered, dark and warm! :D

I put a tiny drop of honey at the entrance to see if she'd take it. Have not checked to see though.

Make sure to kill it, though, to prevent stressing her.

Queen #1: I saw on Friday and she's about the same. no more eggs and they don't look like they've progressed very far. I suspect Temperature is the problem so we'll see what we can do about that. :D

Queen #2: I never did get her a termite to eat as when I was looking I found my "Not A. tennesseensis Colony" but I gave her another drop of honey and saw her drinking before I left. No eggs yet but hopefully soon!

Did she lay yet?

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Being without wings does not ensure fertility, as I have, and seemingly you too, to our dismay.  Or you could try feeding her more protein, maybe she was malnourished in her home nest.

Yes I actually did this today. Don't know if she has eaten it yet or not. She was eating honey but has stopped recently. Fingers crossed!

Been awhile since I updated this journal. to be honest I almost forgot I even had C. pennsylvanicus! :)

Queen #1 is being kept by a friend. He reported to me a couple days ago that she has 2 nanitics!! :D

The really big surprise is the Queen #2 now has eggs!!!  :yahoo: Looks to be maybe a dozen and they look like they're progressing!  :yahoo:  I seriously gave up on this girl ever laying at all! I've had her since 5/23 and up to now nothing! Think I'm gonna invest in a TA Mini Hearth for this girl too!
