I went scouting today for colonies as I have not been "anting" in ages.  The last time I actually had a colony was probably 8 years ago.

I am stoked to get back into this hobby.  I made four plaster nests and they are cured and ready to go.

I went to one of my old spots where I would find a ton of Dorymyrmex insanus queens and that area is completely fenced off.

Scouted a new location and found a lot of pogonomyrmex californicus, Dorymyrmex insanus, and the dreaded argentine ants.

I dug up at least 6 founding chambers, but I guess it has been too long since the last rain.  So I found 0 queens.

I need to plan my anting trips better.  But it does not look like we have any rain coming up anytime soon.

Welcome!

Anting season has just begun for the southern areas.  No worries, I am sure you will find something!  Keep on looking.  :D

I wish I had californicus around here, that's my favorite species and I want to collect some of them this year.  I would love to go anting with you if I'm in the area when they are flying.  The next dates I can be in Santa Clarita are 4/18-4/19, 4/24-4/25, or 6/19-6/20.

I should be able to April 4/18.  I'll show you some spots I have gone to in the past.

I just grabbed a queen and a what I assume are two winged termite queens on a hike.

Looks like some are flying this weekend.  No idea on species.  I'll upload some pics.

Good possibility I have seen them. I don't want to say yes with 100 percent certainty because I am not sure.

Foogoo, as far as I'm concerned, you're always welcome!

asp762:  Any way you could do 4/19?
