Hi. This season I wish to start a crematogaster scutellaris colony.
I have a colony close to my yard @ home because I see foragers that come for bird’s mealworms leftovers.
I usually catch queens with a black light trap but now I want to try to invite queens to build a Founding chamber.
Can anyone tell me what material and conditions crematogaster scutellaris queens search for to start a new colony.
Btw I live in Malta ie. a hot Mediterranean island.
Thank you

Good luck! Crematogaster are the very best. I only know our American species, though. I would just try to find queens after their flight instead of trying to make nesting sites for them or something.

Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

U can let her start a Colony in a test tube setup. Afterwards u can move them into something bigger. They really like wooden structures. They grow so fast.
