I have three Lasius queens. Two are in the same coco fiber/sand test tube, the other one is in a similar one. However, the lone queen is the one with the large pile of brood- no cocoons, though. The other queens appear to have no brood. The test tubes are kept fairly warm, and the queens are moving their antennae rapidly. Where are the brood?

Species I keep:

1 Lasius cf. Neoniger 30 workers

1 Camponotus sp. 15 workers

20 Tetramorium SpE 30 workers

1 T. Sessile 200 workers

Was there brood in there before, and it's gone missing?

Do you see any hidden tunnels in there? They may be hiding them somewhere inside.

If you had changed something, change it back. If you weren't heating them before, take them off the heat. They might be getting too hot and killing the brood.

This colony seems very...odd. One day is a pile of developed brood, the next day there is not.

I will take them off the heat.

Perhaps, but the test tube is not that big, although there is a LOT of substrate. The other queen has a thin layer, so I can see the brood, although it never develops that far.
