I got workers today and got to see one of the 5 eclose! :D
How are yours doing?

Well see for yourself!! :D :D

I got three workers!!!  :yahoo:  :yahoo:  :yahoo:

I was away for the weekend and came in Monday evening to find this! They were moving so fast I couldn't get a picture!! had to video it! There are at least two more pupae ready to go anytime and I've hooked the test tube to a Mini-Hearth so they can move in whenever they want.  (y)

Nice! They look great, your pupae stage went by pretty quickly, mine now have 7 nanitics and some new larvae hidden under the cotton ball. Wish I could get the mini hearth it looks amazing and it seems to really help out the colonies that inhabit them.

Her workers should arrive about this time next month, or later this month.

All my Formica argentea died. I have no idea why.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Hey All! Queen and 5 neonates still doing well. Shortly after this last post Queen stopped laying and hasn't since. I continue to maintenance and think she'll start laying again when they're ready!

I removed the Mini Hearth for now and they are just in a Test Tube with an AC TT Portal attached. I switch this out weekly with new food and honey.

Fingers Crossed!!!  (y)  (y)

Nice, man. Welcome back! I’m currently founding a Formica argentea queen. I traded some Crematogaster queens to get her. My fingers are crossed, too. I hope to start up a Formica journal if she works out.

Nope. Don't really know that I have a secure place to do it. I let the area all my colonies are in get cooler but it's not like they're in a Fridge or anything.

for Information Purposes: I am not in any way not advocating the practice of not Hibernating. I simply lost the fridge I was going to use, got busy and had no access to this forum and was simply too nervous to get it done.

That could prove detrimental to your Camponotus colonies...

that's basically what I'm doing. :) I give them a small roach cut in half or a piece of meal worm and a tiny drop of honey. The square plastic piece in the pic is an AC Test Tube portal. I put the food in there then when its time I swap out the Portal with new food in it. :)  They carry it into the tube. I'm hoping to Swap this setup this year with a Mini Hearth. Hoping they'll build up as fast as you told me last year! :D
