Ok so today I went out looking for a queen I found like 15-20 males but not a single queen I'm wondering do males fly earlier than the queens do? I live in central Kentucky it's been somewhat chilly. However today was in the 60's though so I decided to go looking I found a couple of cool looking male species one had orange on it's back others where solid black. My anticipation to find a queen is off the charts lol.

They seem to start releasing alates a little before the main nuptial flight sometimes. I think many times they are also the first to start flying the day of the main flight too. And, I'm not sure how often this is true, but it seems like there are usually way more males than females.

Males typically outnumber queens to a significant extent.
