I recently moved my ants into a new nest, 2 days ago, and today, when I peeked at them, I saw this random (yellow/clear?) liquid inside of the formicarium. The liquid seems to surround the place where the ants have been storing their waste. I have no idea why the liquid would suddenly pop up and not go away. Is it formic acid?

 

The ants also try to avoid it when they walk by, and it's not near any of the hydration ports, so I don't think it has to do with overflowing or condensation. The sugar water I give them is colored blue/green, so it's probably not what they drink either.

condensation stained by the waste? The humidity is in the air all over the nest and can condensate away from the ports. What species are these? I think if it were formic acid they'd be avoiding more than that small are. Also avoiding an area could be more following where the scent trails lead them and they're better where it's not wet?

 

Is that a Camponotus Hybrid 2.0 nest? I'll look in mine and see if there are similar areas. I believe there are. Do you have water beneath the nest to come up through the floor areas?
