I will be attempting to breed the alates from my Aphaenogaster rudis colonies, as they mate on the ground. I will get pics of this happening. I will be introducing males and females from my different colonies and put them into a small tank. Hopefully this will succeed, so I can start some new colonies, and we'll the rest.

Please let us know your techniques if successful so we can try on our own colonies.  Thanks!

Will do! I am collecting the second and third colonies today, so I will definitely document my processes here!

Keep in mind you should replicate natural flying conditions, such as the sun hitting the nest via heating bulb, and humidity via spray bottle. Good luck!

I found a few males in a colony under a rock, and put them and a single queen from my colony into a box. I put that box in a dark cabinet for about an hour. When I came back, the queen is missing 2 wings, and one males looks to be dying! I will put some more queens in and repeat. I will set the queens up in a test tube and wait for workers.
