Found this queen with her 6 nanitics inside a small hickory nut. They have a few eggs and larvae.

Oh yeah. Should probably update on these beauties. They've got 3 parasitic workers now, three larvae and 2 rudis host workers. They love crushed chia seeds and cricket pieces, along with the occasional mealworms.

Ok guys! Here in Tennessee, we've already had our first Camponotus pennslyvanicus flights, but I didn't catch any, as it was a tiny flight, but this week is going to be fairly warm, hitting the 80s twice! I'm hoping for the first sizable Camponotus flights, as this is the same type of weather that we had in April of last year when I caught a hundred or so Camponotus queens of various species.

Ha! Take that Ferox!

Up to about 20 workers now, with tons more on the way. They love crickets, freeze dried mealworms, and any seed I give them. The queen just laid a new batch of about 30 eggs, and most of the previous batch has developed into workers. They still have around 10 pupae and 15 larvae though, which are happily munching on a dried mealworm.

Wow! You have Myrmecia? In North America? Must be an undescribed species.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

We here have still got the S. molesta advantage over him, as well as western and eastern species in the same state. Not to mention Formica bradleyi.........

Formica integra (Colony #1)
3-24-20

The eggs in the last update are all larvae now, bringing the brood total up to 100 or so small to medium sized larvae. The colony seems very content in their little Mini Hearth. I will be getting the rest of the biological workers and the last queen on Thursday, as it's supposed to be in the 80s. I might grab a few more hosts too, just because.

Formica pallidefullva (Colony #1)
3-24-20

Up to 44 workers, 2 pupae and some new eggs laid by the queens. The egg pile seems to contain about 50 or so new eggs. They absolutely love their sweets too!

Ok guys! We have a new addition to the Journal! I set up a trap over a local Formica pallidefullva colony, and when I checked today there was 3 queens and several dozen workers! I only took 2 queen, so as to let the colony continue on, and took around 1.5 dozen workers. I will make that an even 2 dozen tomorrow.
