Prenolepis imparis (Colony #1)
3-6-20
I found these two queens yesterday. I saw one mate, and she has removed her wings.

Awesome! I’m hoping these fly for me on Monday when we’re set to hit 71.

Oh and I sold the Pheidole bicarinata colony yesterday. They arrived safely, and are happy.

Why did you sell them?

The guy wanted them, and I can get more this season, as they're extremely common.

I think I'll go looking this weekend as it'll be 64 for a high. Fingers crossed I'll find some queens! Time to bike to the woods and go huntin'

Pogonomyrmex occidentalis (Colony #1)
3-16-20

Up to 16 workers, with around 30 large larvae and pupae and about 35-40 eggs and small larvae. I am moving them into a clean tube with new sand.

Crematogaster lineolata (Colony #2)
3-16-20

She has 5 larvae and a bunch of eggs now, with one of the larvae just about ready to pupate.

Crematogaster lineolata (Colony #1)
3-16-20

I forgot what @ANTdrew and I named this queen, but she just laid a batch of around 300-400 eggs, and the brood she over wintered (600-700 microlarvae) is all pupae and large larvae now. A die off of about 50 workers took place earlier in the month, but I'm not worried as they were all the smallest workers, and she still has 375-425 workers. Her colony is about to triple in size! I expect alates this year, so I hope they don't disappoint!

Nylanderia cf. terricola (Colony #1)
3-16-20

Up to about 175 workers, and the queen just laid a large batch of eggs containing about 100 eggs. The brood pile is ever growing, and it's reached about 300 pieces of brood.

Formica integra (Colony #1)
3-16-20

By the time it warms up enough to get the rest of the colony, their pheromones would have changed too much, so I guess I'll keep two colonies. One with one queen and one with two.
Anyways, into the update! The queen has been an egg laying machine, laying eggs every other day. Three hosts have died, but she still has 12, and..... They have more than 60 eggs and small larvae!!! Parasitic Formica are just as easy as I remember them being...

Formica pallidefullva (Colony #1)
3-16-20

Up to 31 workers, with lots of brood. The queens are always laying new eggs, and the brood pile contains about 50 items, mostly eggs and small larvae.

Aphaenogaster tennesseensis (Colony #1)
3-16-20

First time I've checked on them in about a week, and she has 3 hosts left, but she has 2 parasitic workers! The brood pile is slowly growing, and contains a few pupae, some larvae and a couple eggs.

Crematogaster cf. ashmeadi (Colony #1)

Oh yeah! I found this queen after a small flight last week. She's calmed down, but I can't see any eggs yet. She has dropped her wings, so that's a good sign.

Up to 17 workers now. They've been hoarding seeds, seemingly in preparation of COVID-19...

Ants make their own sanitizer with their metapleural gland. No price gauging there.

We've got eggs! Well, only one egg, but still! I might separate the queens for a while, just to see which one is laying the eggs.

but wouldn't separating them stress the egg laying queen, preventing her from laying eggs?

I found these queens hanging out on trees by the edge of a forest. They were just crawling all up and down them, waiting to be tackled by drones.
