Ahhh, unfortunately, we have no Neivamyrmex colonies up here, but the rock idea is really good. I have found massive colonies under rocks, especially in our black hills.

Oh, you're in South Dakota. I thought you were in South Carolina....

That's fine. I kind of do wish i was in South Carolina...

Mine are heated at 84 F, took 2 months for the brood to develop to workers, and are on a diet of mealworms, crickets and honey.

Aphaenogaster rudis (Colony #1)

3-4-20

Found the queen dead today. I have no clue why she died, as the workers and brood are all fine, but nevertheless, she has died. The Formica integra colony will be taking over their Mini Hearth after a good cleaning. The Formica will also be able to have more of their original slaves in the nest, and it will be easier to add them in.

How do you go about cleaning mini hearths? I've got one I've been procrastinating on...

with my devlove chamber I used a special cleaning chemical (I forgot the name, but it wasn't harmful, don't worry, my Formica queen is still going and she was in there for a bit), and it worked like a charm

Would vinegar be a good natural cleaner? Of course the nest should be thoroughly rinsed afterwards.

I suppose it could, but I always stick to water.

I like to kill potential pathogens before moving the ants in the nest.

I would dilute the vinegar one part to two parts water. Rinse thoroughly.

Oh and I sold the Pheidole bicarinata colony yesterday. They arrived safely, and are happy.

Awesome! I’m hoping these fly for me on Monday when we’re set to hit 71.

Why did you sell them?
