Myrmecina americana (Colony #2)
2-11-20
Myrmecina americana flew recently, and I snagged a queen. She's in a small tube, and she's been fed. Just waiting for eggs now. :)

You've got another Myrmecina americana colony? Also I didn't know they fly in spring, I caught mine in Autumn.

Yea, I've got another one with 60 ish workers. I didn't know they flew this time of year either....
Are they wild caught or raised from a queen? I've been looking for journals on them but I haven't been able to find any.

The colony was found inside a log with about 20 workers.
Do you have any pictures of them? I'd love to see some.

Did you find her with wings? I am pretty sure they're semi-claustral and could've been foraging for food if not.

Woah, cool. About the Dr. Destructo incident, the closest thing that would express as much pain as you probably felt is my cat finding a pharaoh major, and just eating it. It physically hurt me lol

Aphaenogaster tennesseensis (Colony #1)
2-13-20

Her A. rudis hosts are still loyal, bringing her food every day, and she has her first pupa!!! She has 2-3 other larvae and some eggs too. In a week or so, she should have her first biological worker! She will be the first Aphaenogaster tennesseensis queen to get workers for me!

Formica pallidefullva (Colony #1)
2-14-20

Lost 10 or so workers, but they have a bunch of larvae and some pupae and around 50 or so eggs. I'm moving them to a new tube, and when they move I will get some pics. :)

Formica pacifica (Colony #1)
2-14-20

Lost a hundred or so workers, but still have 2,300 (estimated. You try counting that many ants from a picture XD) Queen has yet to lay, but they came out of hibernation only 3 weeks ago. This queen has always been pretty slow to start laying, and slow to stop in Autumn lol. They do have a huge appetite, and take between 2 and 3 large crickets a day and love their carbohydrate jelly. I will update on them when I'm notified of the queen's beginning to lay.

You definitely need to post pictures of that mega-colony.

Pogonomyrmex occidentalis (Colony #1)
2-19-20

They are up to 6 workers now, with many eggs, larvae and pupae. They absolutely love chia seeds and mealworm pieces.

Trachymyrmex septentrionalis (Colony #1)
2-19-20

They've lost quite a few workers, which does worry me a bit, but their fungus is getting pretty big. It's about 10 millimeters in diameter right now, and they love pink rose petals.
