There is a important time for everything, important place for everyone, an important person for everybody, and an important ant for each and every ant keeper and myrmecologist alike

They have added a bunch of stuff to the fungus! It's speckled with dark bits from the grass and rose petals, with little white and yellow patches. The fungus looks a few millimeters bigger than yesterday too! I'll grab some pics in a minute.

Wow. Apparently they love betta fish pellets. They went crazy for them and have them all over their fungus! Obviously they are growing their fungus well!

Ok.... So, one of my kittens saw my pinned collection of ants (comprised of nearly 100 species from all over the U.S.) and decided it would be fun to destroy it.... I have salvaged 40% of all the specimens (all of the rare and important ones luckily) and the kitten has earned the nickname Dr. Destructo.

Sad. Well now you have an excuse to go anting more often.

Myrmecina americana (Colony #2)

Myrmecina americana flew recently, and I snagged a queen. She's in a small tube, and she's been fed. Just waiting for eggs now. :)

You've got another Myrmecina americana colony? Also I didn't know they fly in spring, I caught mine in Autumn.

Are they wild caught or raised from a queen? I've been looking for journals on them but I haven't been able to find any.

The colony was found inside a log with about 20 workers.
