Trachymyrmex septentrionalis (Colony #1)
1-17-20

They arrived today! They've got a queen, 50-60 workers and about 9 mm of fungus! They're in a Petri dish set up with roots to grow their fungus on right now.

Good luck with them! Fungus farmers are among my favorites... (especially leafcutters)

Yeah, but you can get like 60 Cyphomyrmex colonies in a day! I haven't found one yet..... I am close, however.

I've noticed something pretty funny with these gals. One worker will bring a piece of grass or rose petal into the nest, then another worker will come and be like "hmm. Who left this trash here?!" And will promptly remove it from the nest.

They've cut a little bit off of a grass blade and laid their little fungus pellets on top of it. They also brought some rose petals into the nest, but haven't cut them up yet.

Pogonomyrmex occidentalis (Colony #1)
1-18-20

Their first batch of the year and it's up to 15-20 eggs! They took another wheatgrass seed and a barley seed and even a fruit fly the other day. They're off to a great start!

Can’t wait till summer.

I feel the exact same way. P. occidentalis isn't even sold 'till spring. Fortunately, I read that S. molesta doesn't 'need' (can live without) hibernation, and therefore I have mine out. They look fat and healthy......  :)

I can’t wait until winter...We haven’t had any here really.

They have their first larvae! I gave them a half dozen fruit flies and some honey water, and they seem to be enjoying it! I'd estimate about 70 eggs and larvae.

Looks like they've started to grow the fungus up a bit. I put in some rose petal pieces and a piece of a blade of grass and they're very interested in them. The fungus pellets look to be about twice the size now too.

They cut up a metal blade?

These aren't just your average Trachymyrmex. These have been genetically engineered and have titanium reinforced mandibles.

nice catch btw

Camponotus americanus (Colony #1)
1-23-20

These aren't doomed after all. They have decided they don't want to die, and have started to accept food again. The worker is absolutely filled to bursting with honey water and the queen laid a small batch of 3 eggs!

Formica pallidefullva (Colony #1)
1-23-20

They have 25-30 workers, with 70 eggs and larvae. I moved them into a THA Fortress Type 1, and they have huddled into the biggest chamber.

Pogonomyrmex occidentalis (Colony #1)
1-23-20

30 ish eggs and small larvae now. The first worker has died, unfortunately. They should have 10-14 more workers from this batch though.

Camponotus snellingi (Colony #1)
1-23-20

Up to 19 workers, with lots more pupae, eggs and larvae. They love their fruit flies and honey, and take it almost daily!

Camponotus subbarbatus (Colony #1)
1-23-20

They have 17 workers and 4 eggs now. Off to a good start, with only single worker death.

Crematogaster lineolata (Colony #1)
1-23-20

They are off to a great start this year, with 500 or so workers and TONS of eggs and larvae. They have a huge appetite too.

Aphaenogaster tennesseensis (Colony #1)
1-23-20

I re-boosted her, as her last hosts died of old age. She has 4 new hosts, all callow workers and she laid a batch of about 10 new eggs. Her previous batch is now all larvae. Biological workers are sooo close! This will be the first A. tennesseensis queen to get to worker for me!

Trachymyrmex septentrionalis (Colony #1)
1-23-20

The fungus hasn't completely disappeared after all! They are growing it on The side of the cotton ball used for hydration, and it's about twice the size it was last week. They seem to enjoy grass and rose petals the most. I will be trying to find some frass to give them though, as that is supposed to be their favorite substrate to use.

Oh wait. I forgot to update on the Nylanderia.

Nylanderia terricola (Colony #1)
1-23-20

Up to 50 or so workers, with a new batch of about 40 eggs. They have 30 pupae and about 23 larvae as well. Doing great for their second year!
