I've seen some of my Camponotous queens attach their eggs to their midsection (somehow), so it's cool to know my ants don't belong in an insane asylum

I think my Gnamptogenys triangularis queen has and egg attached to her mesosoma.

Warm days. It's not been cold lately. High 60s-low 70s. And as @ANTdrew said, I'm the Dude.

Yep. Tennessee has mild winters (usually).

Surprising how much different it would be than Northern Virginia. We’re literally at the dividing line for north and south here, so any given winter day could be 60 degrees or 6. Sometimes this happens in the same week. Lol

Aphaenogaster rudis (Colony #1)
12-4-19

They are still coming along. Lots of pupae, some days away from hatching. They have plenty of eggs, and a bunch of larvae. Some are alate larvae!

Aphaenogaster tennesseensis (Colony #1)
12-4-19

They are still getting along. Waiting for eggs! Probably gonna have to hibernate first though.

Camponotus snellingi (Colony #1)
12-4-19

Still developing. At 5 workers and 6 pupae, a bunch of large larvae and some eggs.

Pogonomyrmex occidentalis (Colony #1)
12-4-19

Some small larvae and eggs. Still at 5 workers.

It's doing great! Haven't heard much lately, with hibernation and all, but last I heard they had approximately 4,300 workers.

This is a Formica pacifica colony that you used to keep when you lived in Washington, right?

Pheidole bicarinata (Colony #1)
12-7-19

Colony has resumed growth after two months in hibernation. They have some small to large over-wintered larvae, about 20 new eggs and 110 workers. I have fed them some acorn pieces, sugar water and cricket so far, and they have accepted all.

Oh and here's a list of the colonies that have died in hibernation so far this year:

Camponotus pennslyvanicus: Queen hasn't been looking good for a few months.
Crematogaster missouriensis: Likely not mated anyway.
Lasius claviger: Injured front leg on capture.

Thanks! They're gonna get big this year. Hopefully over 1000. They've got some large larvae and 35-40 eggs now. I'm definitely gonna get some more Pheidole this year. There's some larger ones that I want around here, with 9 millimeter queens.
