I'm gonna get some more soon.

From Derpy?
"The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." Prov. 30:25
Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

Either him, or THA.

I'm gonna buy a "Pogonomyrmex occidentalis queen and 1-5 workers" from THA. I can add my late queen's brood and workers to the new colony. Apparently THA's queens have biological nanitics now, so hopefully I can get a successful one.

Damn. I’m definitely not ordering Pogonomyrmex now.

Same... I mean no more defense to Mack, but yeah, after this? Never again.
You mean offense right, not defense?
It said offense before I looked yesterday Idk what happened.

Crematogaster cerasi (Colony #1)
9-28-19

This queen was caught today, in, you guessed it! A pool.

Crematogaster lineolata (Colony #1)
9-28-19

This is my large colony, formerly known as Crematogaster cerasi (Colony #1). I realized today while looking at their queen through the mass of workers and brood, that, she is 7 millimeters, not 9 like Crematogaster cerasi, and she is skinnier than normal cerasi queens. She was also found in a small stick, in November, hibernating with no brood of workers. Crematogaster cerasi don't inhabit sticks on the forest floor. This colony has almost 400 workers now, with more than 500 in brood. Mostly pupae and new eggs.

Crematogaster minutissima (Colony #1)
9-28-19

This beautiful queen was found in the same pool as the new cerasi queen.

Lasius neoniger (Colony #1)
9-28-19

This queen was found in the same pool as the last two new queens.

Pogonomyrmex sp. in general have a low success rate from queens and small colonies.  You have to have loads of queens to have some turn out alright in the long run.  So to conclude, none of this is specifically Mack's fault.

Are the Brachyponera still alive? I've been thinking of driving to Reedsburg (The town in Wisconsin where they have been found.) sometime in the future to get some.

I didn't see this comment. Sorry. No, they died last month.

Pogonomyrmex can be very Hardy if cared for right. Call it luck, but last fall 4/4 of my P. subdentatus queens founded, and all are still alive today.

Camponotus nearcticus (Colony #1)
10-5-19

Up to 21 workers now, with 40 brood in all stages, including two more major pupae about to hatch! That'll be 3 majors in a year!

Lasius neoniger (Colony #1)
10-5-19

Like the Crematogaster minutissima queen (she is doing great btw with 30 ish eggs), this Lasius queen must not have gotten the memo. She has an egg.

Crematogaster lineolata (Colony #1)
10-5-19

Up to about 450 workers now, with too much brood to count. I'd estimate about 700 brood, mostly comprised of eggs.
I ordered a new Pogonomyrmex occidentalis colony btw. Should be here next week.

New colonies!

Pogonomyrmex occidentalis (Colony #1)
10-14-19

Four workers and 5 pupae. Doing great in their new mini hearth.

Camponotus nearcticus (red and black) (Colony #1)
10-14-19

Three workers and looking healthy.

Solenopsis invicta (Colony #1)
10-14-19

I'm probably gonna get some backlash for keeping these, but oh well. Two queens.

Solenopsis rchrti (Colony #1)
10-14-19

One queen. Very pretty colors.

Oh and please, if you have complaints about me keeping Solenopsis invicta and rchrti, keep it to PMs.

Pogonomyrmex occdentalis (Colony #1)
10-14-19

Gave them some acorn meat and barley seed. They only took the acorn though. And yee, I am cracking the seeds open for them. One pupa should hatch tomorrow or the day after, bringing them up to five workers.

Nice! Post some pics whenever possible, as the ants you are keeping are sounding gorgeous (coincidence, I think not lol).
