Update 6/11

Ok so I setup all 5 this morning. #1 #2 #4 seem to be doing ok. #3 I think is dead #5 isn't looking great either.

Close pic is #3

P1020359

As for the first 2 Queens: Queen #2 had a worker die so now there are 4 and the Queens wings are now Shed! :D (Could this be a precursor to laying eggs?)
Queen #1 no real changes Queen and 5 workers seem to be doing well. :D

What a difference a day makes!!  :*(  :*(

Of the original 2 Queens it appears Queen#2 is dead.  :(   Queen 1 and her 5 workers are still ok.

Of the new 5 Queens, only Queen #1 is still alive.  :(  :(

Maybe I'm not cut out for this Lasius thing yet. I can see losing one of the originals but I'm stumped as to why 4 of the other 5 are now dead.  :sore:  :sore:

Ah, that’s sad :( one of my Lasius interjectus queens was curled up in a dead position, 3 hours later, she was alive and well. She might just be “playing dead” like mine. I wouldn’t give up yet either, I don’t want to raise Lasius parasites alone!

Parasitic ants often end up like this. Trust me. I know.

Have you been feeding them? I've found that parasitic queens die after a couple days without food.

Yes. Honey and a bit of mealworm, yesterday I put in a fly. (original 2)

The 4 outta 5 group I just caught night before last. Was going to feed them honey today. I just fed the survivor.

Yep, leave them there, they could uncurl.  Happened to me a day ago. Two molesta queens curled up, and even when I flicked their container, they did not move. Today, they are alive and kicking!

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Nope they are definitely all dead. :(

I'm down to 2 Queens now. Queen #1 from the first set with 5 workers still and then Queen #1 form the second group I haven't added workers yet.

So these will now be known as Queen #1 and #2 respectively. :)

I’ve been feeding them honey on a q-tip in their test tubes. I haven’t given them any protein though because they don’t have any brood.

I put a dab of Honey near the entrance of the tube and I've seen them eat it. I have also offered bit of meal worm and flys but I haven't seen any interest showed in it really. I need to start up some fruit fly cultures I think.

Well everything went to heck after the last update so for this year I'm calling this a failure.  :*(  :*(

Think these were a little more than I could handle at this point. I got plenty of other ants I gotta work at anyhow.
