The settings on the image links are correct, so it is most likely a problem on your end.
Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).
3 workers, 4 pupae, at least 8 larvae, and some eggs now. They are really doing great, and I just can't say enough how fun they are to watch already. I can't wait until they get like 20 or so workers.

4 workers, 5 pupae, larvae and eggs. Also, I am hopeful that the workers will remain orange, as there are 3 workers that have stayed the same orange color for days now, so hopefully they don't darken any further.
Also, I never mentioned it in here, but the big hypo died. Like a month ago.
However, the day before yesterday, I found another queen of the same species under a piece of ceramic in my Strumigenys spot. She is in a test tube w/ a dirt-sand mixture. She hasn't hunted any springtails, which is a bit worrying, nor did she go for the small mealworm. Hopefully she just isn't hungry.

Can you udate the strumi journal?

I have some good news too!

Well this colony is doing great.
They did lose one worker, but they gained it back on the same day, so they are at four workers. They do have about 8 larvae, 7 pupae, and eggs.
The workers are still orange, so that is very nice, since orange ants are awesome.
Also, the workers are becoming more skilled at killing the springtails, now actually carrying them back to the nest; before they would just kill them, and then let the queens do the rest. Now, two queens seem to stay inside the nest at almost all times, and I suspect that number will eventually include all of them when they get more workers.
Here is a cool video I got of a worker killing a springtail:
I have another video, one that is 30 seconds, that I am trying to combine with the video above. Sadly my editing skills are next to nil, and I have no proper software, just youtube.

Cute thing killing another cute thing.
But seriously that video is awesome. How tiny are they that springtails are a little challenge???
Starting this July I'm posting videos of my ants every week on youTube.
I like to make relaxing videos that capture the joy of watching ants.

Oh, for video editing there is a phone app called "Videoshop" should be able to buy it NOT 'subscribe' it's dead simple and great for simple editing.

The workers are about 2mm long. And I could have sworn there was a "add clip" feature on youtube, or am I losing my marbles?

OK, well bad news people.
The workers are dying as fast as they are eclosing, and I have no idea why. I am feeding them tons, and they have tons of brood, and so the conditions are clearly good. They are now at only 2 workers.
I will update this when either they all die off, or stop dying. Hopefully the latter.

Could it be because they're sensitive to light? After all, Hypoponera are mostly subterranean.
No, I don't think so. These are kept in low light, and I have subterranean species in full light without issue.

Eh I'm doubtful of that also. These are a cosmopolitan ant by almost all metrics(they are punctatissima), they can be found pretty much anywhere, so I doubt it is one specific thing. I would believe that perhaps I'm not feeding them enough springtails, so I will probably increase feeding.

IDK. Not to jinx this, but they did get another worker.
They still have so much brood, so as long as the dying spree was temporary, they should be fine.

Well, hopefully good news!
They have 7 workers now, after having a couple more die, and even one queen.
However, they still have tons of brood, and now the aforementioned 7 workers. I really hope this colony is done with it's weirdness, and can continue on happily, and reach maturity by the end of next year.
