Camponotus not taking food?

Hi!

So I have a colony of Camponotus singularis and they are not taking any protein, and are only interested in sweets. The queen is laying eggs though. The last time I kept this species they took protein but never laid eggs. Any ideas on what the issue is? thanks in advance.

If the environment is good and you're offering a wide range of foods, they will eat what they need to make more eggs and worker ants.

They know what they need to survive better than you do, so don't worry about what foods they're eating or refusing to eat if the colony appears to be in good health.

Eggs don't eat anything (and neither do pupae), so they don't need protein while they don't have larvae. Also Camponotus have huge social stomaches, once filled up they won't need food for quite a few days.
