The colony continue to grow with more fungus and more workers pupated. I placed few pieces of Chinese tallow and 1-minute oat. They happily accepted the oat meal but discard the leave.

I counted more and more workers the following week.....

Decided to split this colony into 3 individual queen set up. I split up some fungus and brood/workers among the three queen and hopefully each will form a colony by itself.

So exactly two months since the collecting date, each of the colony that I have separated (from 3-queen colony) into individual set up is finally self-sustained and able to cut leaves. I foresee the fungus will grow quickly from now with constant supply of food plant. Besides this experimental group, I also have other queens that are doing well with single-queen or dual-queen set up. I won't be able to take care of all and will put up some Atta texana queens for adoption soon.

How did these turn out in the end? I'm in Austin and I'm very much hoping to nab some queens soon!

Nobody updates Atta journals. Like ever.

I’ve observed this with Leafcutter journals in general. Only Drew and CheetoLord actually update or updated their journal.

It’s like a law of nature or at least a law of online ant forums.

A lot of journals in general are started but very few are consistently updated.

What about all the Pheidole journals? Those are Attines as well.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Oh, really? Then I revise my statement to 'Leafcutter Journals'.

I believe all fungus growers are put under the subtribe attina, but that classification may not be correct.
