Welp, please TELL ME I FOUND A KING AND QUEEN. I’ve always wanted a termite colony, and now I think I’ve found a pair. One of them is a little larger and leads the other one around by its rear end. If the other one strays behinds, the leading termite will stop and raise her rear until the other termite finds her and then they continue moving.

Yep! They are everywhere right now.

I don't think you can easily determine the sex at this stage without magnification.  Sometimes you'll find same sex pairings that won't result in any offspring.

 

So you'll need to wait and see if they produce fertile eggs to determine whether you have both sexes.

When you caught them, were they tandem running? That's a sign that you have both a King and Queen termite.

You can sex them by looking at the sternites (a good macrolense and a lot of patience will probably suffice). Females have a large plate looking one at the end while males have evenly sized sternites.

I actually found them under a bag of mulch, and when I disturbed them, they had one in the lead while one followed closely behind.

Termites are the perfect pets, and they double as weapons for domestic sabotage. Not suggesting you do anything malicious, just stating the facts.
