Oh, I’ll probably head out there on Saturday too. I wanna try my luck at some Camponotus.
Want to link up on Saturday? Can meet there or even carpool up there. I'm free that day.

I mean if a bunch of us meet up there that could be fun but I don’t know what others are doing.

Yeah I think that's the plan. I still don't know where or what time people are meeting up but I'm free that day.
So, its 88 degrees here in Huntington Beach. As us-CA02 have already flown, along with other species, and it it rather dry, will they not fly again today? Or is there still a chance of finding more?
Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).
So me and some others are going to a place where Camponotus have previously flown to check if they will fly again. This place is Whitney canyon park and I’d say the meetup time should be about 8.

Oh just fyi, I am supposed to be quarantining because a bunch of dudes on my basketball team got covid and I was in contact with them. So be sure to be spaced from me if you guys go haha. Either way it should be fun and we will catch a good amount of queens.
Sure thing, this will be a fun time.

Depends on how long it's been since they flew. I caught a ton of CA02 yesterday, even though they flew monday.

If they flew once in an area they will not fly again until the next year. I caught stragglers from the flight the day before
camponotus will fly all this week

I believe there are a couple CA02 spots in the Santa Ana mountains, foremost among them is the parking lot of Ortega Oaks Candy Store. Problem is, that is a 50+ minute drive for me, which most likely won't happen.

Hey! After seeing the Temp. today I hopped on thinking tonight is a good night to go out and search.
Is anyone going out tonight? I'd like to join? Please PM me so we can communicate over text or something.
Ok, so Chaney trail looks like the move tonight around 7pm. I don't own a headlamp or test tubes so if anyone else has the time to meet up I can overpay for some test tubes haha.
After talking with Nurbs it seems like going solo is not fun at night . So i'll only be going if anyone else would like to meetup there or join. I can also provided transportation if needed.
Anyone interested?

I recommend just going, if you have a decent flashlight you'll be fine. I think it's pretty likely you'll run into others as well, Chaney is a fairly popular anting spot. If you haven't got test tubes, go to walmart and buy some sauce containers, they sell in packs of 50, they're large enough for the largest queens you'll be catching. Buy cotton as well, when you get back home, take a piece of cotton, dip it in water, and put it in with the queen, then poke some holes on the lid. That'll suffice for a week or two, enough time for you to buy test tubes

Yay! Found some Dorymyrmex insanus queens at my Formica spot. I was hoping for bicolor, but oh well...
Hope y'all get a bunch more CA02 queens.
