Do any ants have their main nuptial flight in April?

Sometimes Camponotus. In southern california, Prenolepis have probably already flew. I know that lots of Camponotus flew on February 28th. I wasnt able to get any, sadly. When the San Bernadino mountains warm up, C. Laevigatus will fly quite a lot.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I would assume so, on this thread. But it isn't guaranteed. It's still worth keeping an eye on, though.

I did not find any queens in Fallbrook, CA in San Diego County. Only workers. Temperature was 73 F at highest. It was raining for over a week about 3 days ago. I hope this info somewhat helps.

I know stuff flew in Lancaster(on the 18th), so there was probably stuff in Palmdale. There might still be some founding chambers, but be prepared to do a bit of digging. They would probably be pretty far down now.

IDK what would be flying in the desert. I think most of the Spring stuff already flew.  The forests would be good, but I think most of them are closed.

Yeah the spring-time species have flown in the desert. Only thing left in the desert between now and the summer monsoon species is Pogonomyrmex californicus.

Went to the desert over the weekend. It was nice to be outside for a while.

I don't know if its the time of the year or what, but I have never seen this many founding chambers dug up by rodents before. Some places had almost every single chamber dug up.

The flowers were crazy too. They actually made it a real pain in the butt to spread the dirt out after digging up chambers.

Myrmecocystus. I think it's probably M. mimicus.

Hiked 12 miles down Sasquatch Trail in Ramona yesterday since the temp spiked up. I found nothing. I don't know how people are finding 40+ queens in the middle of no where in Cali.

I got 8 Brachymyrmex patagonicus queens, and saw many more, plus one S. xyloni. Hundreds upon hundreds of male Argentines, as well as those of B. patagonicus. I also saw about 5 Nylanderia vividula males. Id say a pretty darn successful night in my backyard for April.
