Yeah it's all pretty much disappeared.
There appears to be a mild increase in temperature this friday-saturday. I think i might check out trabuco canyon as i will be in OC this weekend. I know a few people have caught C. fragilis there in the July to August time frame. According to weather.com it will be 72-75 degrees at 8-9pm with 50-60% humidity and light (4mph) winds. I plan on checking the bushes out there starting from 830 for a few hours. You think its warm enough? Any particular good spots up there? Thanks.
Do you guys do this in groups/events? I'd be interested in going if it is possible to plan something like this. I figure it would be a bit difficult due to being dependent on the weather.

fixed images
Found a random gimp quercicola queen a few days ago while trapdoor-hunting- she gets around just fine, seems they have little trouble if they lose leg II. Shes in good condition though.
Fixed your images. You can't use an html page in an image tag.
Went blacklighting in our backyard for four nights, caught some solenopsis molest and temnothorax. Also saw a pheidole queen, but she got away.
I don't know what it is about the solonopsis molesta species, but it is the only species I can't get to survive for more than a week. I literally put like 10-20 in test tube setups, all dead in the next week or two.

They have the highest infertility rate of any queen I've kept. Caught 4 liometopum queens at lights, all were fertile. Caught 5 solenopsis molesta queens under rocks and 27 at lights, none were fertile.
Stigmatomma pallipes are flying!
Right now???
Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).
Yes, just not in the day.

Found some cyphomyrmex! Two cool ants in one week! Located at El Dorado Hills Bowmen archery range. I marked a nest behind some green benches with a palm sized rock and some string.
Happy for you, fellow anter, but El Dorado Hills is considered Southern California now? That’s north of Sacramento, which is north of SF, which has always been NorCal has it not?
Hhaha! If it is then I can start posting in this thread being in Fresno/Clovis area.

Oh, freck. I failed geography.

the cool part though is if you find males they can be bred on the ground (solenopsis not liometopum)
