If it heats up again, I'll probably just go try black lighting again in the canyon closer to me. As we get closer to summer, there should be more and more Solenopsis, Brachymyrmex, Nylanderia, Hypoponera, Pheidole, and Temnothorax species starting to fly in the lower elevations. You never know what other much less often found species you might come across with the black light. A couple times I even found some parasitic Lasius in the foothills. If I'm lucky, I might find some of those massive Camponotus that are all over that area.
Didn't you find some large male Camponotus alates at Trabuco other day? Wouldn't that mean they have flown?
You look for those every year and have yet to find them. Starting to believe they exist only in your imagination.
