I think I might go black lighting Friday. That should be the start of another heatwave.
Back to Trabuco? I'm once again considering Big Bear, though I don't know how you have the energy to go anting after a workday.

Sunday might be a good day to go to the mountains.
Do you ever venture out of the Santa Ana area for your nightlighting trips, out to the Angeles or Padres NF or elsewhere?
Guess that must be quite a haul from down there.

I'm assuming you meant tonight not next Sunday? Gotta work Monday . I'm hoping flights will go on throughout the week as the warming trend continues.

Haha not tonight. It's freezing cold. You gotta go when the conditions are right or you're wasting your time.
Might have some RECON for ya. My son is heading up to Arrowhead with another family for the weekend. I told him to keep an eye out.
A few of us are heading to Trabuco Canyon tonight.
How was it?
Not a whole lot flying last night, but I did find one queen of my favorite Pheidole--P. vistana. I got another Crematogaster mutans dealate too.
I went up to Crystal Lake in Azusa, California with nurbs last night. Didn't find a whole lot, but I did find a queen I've been trying to find for years--Aphaenogaster occidentalis. I found it under a rock living right next to a colony of Tapinoma sessile. Some Lasius species was flying while we were there too, so we grabbed a bunch of them. It looks just like the same strange looking Lasius species I found up in Mt. Baldy a few years back. I also found two more Camponotus vicinus queens. Well, nurbs found one of them and gave it to me.

I'm thinking about going to Trabuco Canyon tonight. The conditions are looking pretty good.

Did you end up going? I'm still hoping to get out to the mountains soon, just hard to get off the couch once I'm home. The weather seems pretty consistent this week.

Nope. I was too lazy.
Check this out though.
I'm heading out there with NightsWebs early Saturday morning.
Novomessor cockerelli, Myrmecocystus, Pogonomyrmex, Pheidole, Dorymyrmex, and Camponotus fragilis could all fly. Novomessor cockerelli is what I'm really after.
Looks like Goffs just got another .26 inches of rain totaling over .5 inches now.
Are you find the cockerelli right at Goffs or in the hills or??
I'd love to join, but that's a lot of driving! And I though Joshua Tree was far...

The weather station out there is now showing over .7 inches of rain total, yesterday and today, so that's more than enough to trigger mating flights.
Are you find the cockerelli right at Goffs or in the hills or??
Right at Goffs. Right in front of the town sign on Route 66 as a matter of fact.
