Camponotus ca02 is not in that area
I went camping in San Diego this april, and to my surprise caught 5 different Camponotus species. I should've wrote down the weather, but I think it was a small heat spike of like 75 the day before-83 when I caught them.

Not sure how I forgot to add this to my 2021 anting post. This whole mating flight lasted about 20 minutes and after that you would have never known it happened.
Here is a Myrmecocystus placodops mating flight I caught on video during the 2022 anting season.
Another honeypot species shortly after they had a mating flight.
This was the most active lightning storm I've ever seen in the desert.
The two species in California being called M. placodops are much more abundant than I think most realize. The unfortunate part is many of the roads to get to many of the locales are not friendly to low ground clearance vehicles with smaller road tires, which is the largest hindrance.
