Yeah, we don't need anymore hurricanes. That was like a fireworks show that catches on fire and everything is gone in 1 minute.

I had a feeling the heat would bring something out. I caught a couple termite royals today.

I know I’m asking pretty early, but I was planning to go to Griffith park this spring and catch some Camponotus. A gan farmer that I bought from said that she caught sansabeanus around the observatory and I think she might have mentioned catching us-ca02 there as well, but I could be mistaken. If anyone could tell me what time and weather I should go to collect queens of Sansabeanus and other Camponotus, I would greatly appreciate it.

I went camping in San Diego this april, and to my surprise caught 5 different Camponotus species. I should've wrote down the weather, but I think it was a small heat spike of like 75 the day before-83 when I caught them.

8:30-9 pm was when they were the most common, but you could probably catch them from like 7:30-10

Not sure how I forgot to add this to my 2021 anting post. This whole mating flight lasted about 20 minutes and after that you would have never known it happened.

Here is a Myrmecocystus placodops mating flight I caught on video during the 2022 anting season.

Another honeypot species shortly after they had a mating flight.

This was the most active lightning storm I've ever seen in the desert.

Looks like a promising city to keep an eye on! Cactus city isn’t too far for placodops. Still aiming to get that species going…

The two species in California being called M. placodops are much more abundant than I think most realize. The unfortunate part is many of the roads to get to many of the locales are not friendly to low ground clearance vehicles with smaller road tires, which is the largest hindrance.

I must admit my Honda accord is jealous of Andrew’s truck but gas prices help with that feeling a bit!

I want to find some M. placodops colonies down here by San Diego.
