Yeah I'm thinking Tues maybe even Weds for me. Not sure how it affects things but this rain (unlike "real" monsoons) is bringing a drop in temperature by about 20*F, and also suppose to drop 3-6" so far in it's track (although that can easily change) but it seems like 3-6" is tons more than a typical monsoon flash storm that drops maybe 1-2" (max)? On Tues/Weds, temp looks like it shoots back into the mid-high 80*F vs. the mid 70*F during the rain dumps.

I know around here in Vegas, if more than an 1" gets dumped, it will usually flood. I can't imagine what 3-6" would do. I believe we are preparing our underground community of homeless and getting them out here in my city.

Yes, might be better to wait a bit since the off-road areas will be dicey and there will also be road closures. Will need the high temps for flights as well.

Do you think they will fly on Wednesday? Will the flooding be over by then

Yeah I’m thinking of heading out Wednesday as well if the weather is right.

I keep: C. modoc, C. sansabeanus  :D, C. maritimus, Formica argentea, M. mexicanus  :D, Odontomachus brunneus :D, Pogonomyrmex californicus, Pogonomyrmex rugosus,

JT having much less rain now on Monday, that means less flooding!

It's only a 10th of an inch on Monday now, it's probably safe to go out Tuesday.

Cause I’m so busy, I won’t be able to make it out until next Saturday night and Sunday morning, will acromyrmex still
be flying? A few of my weather apps say that there might be some smaller rain storms throughout the week.

Does acromyrmex act like other ants where they fly for many days after a big storm?

If they don’t keep flying will I be able to catch some that are out foraging at night?

I don't think so, but they'll definitely be founding chambers. Just don't collect the Acromyrmex versicolor queens after they've made founding chambers because they don't have their fungus pellets anymore so they're useless. You can probably find some founding chambers in yucca valley.

Is it possible to catch a few queens that are out foraging and then buy fungus, or should I wait to see if there is another rain storm?

Hey guys, do you think Myrmecocystus wheeleri and Camponotus sansabeanus complex alates will fly after this rain on Tuesday or Wednesday? Also, at what time do Myrmecocystus wheeleri fly?

I wouldn't count on there being anything after this. Pretty much everything will be flown and done after this week.

Wait both of them fly in spring?

Not particularly. Some Tanaemyrmex of the "C. sansabeanus-complex" from Inaturalist can and do fly in the summer, one of those being C. semitestaceus.

Have Acromyrmex flown down there yet? I haven't seen or heard much about Acromyrmex flights this year yet.
