Nobody called the cops on you this time?
I used a tube blacklight on top of my car since I had forgotten to bring the bucket part of the bucket trap. I brought it out tonight but I think it was both too bright and too windy for flying insects in Carbon Canyon tonight. The only ants I saw were Argentine males.
Ah, no worries. I plan to give it a go at Angelus Oaks in June and hopefully in the desert later this summer.
Camponotus vicinus, Crematogaster 1, Crematogaster 2, Formica francoeuri, *, *, Myrmecocystus testaceus, Novomessor cockerelli, Pheidole hyatti, Pogonomyrmex californicus, Pogonomyrmex rugosus, Solenopsis invicta
Ran my black light at the trail head in Silverado Canyon last night. We only found two S. xyloni queens, and just before leaving some miserable lady walked all the way down the street to tell us we were "shining our lights in her face for an hour". That wasn't an absurd exaggeration or anything.
There's a slight chance of a shower predicted for Thursday, otherwise, it seems like a whole lot of nothing going on. Hopefully we're still too early for the majority of flights.

Yeah, it does look like there might be a sudden warm-up the Sunday after. Probably not enough for any night time flights, but possibly something that flies during the day.
Looks like we might be getting some rain Friday, with a warm up Sunday. So far I'm thinking of hitting up Mt. Baldy again. Maybe even check the high desert again if they get some of the rain. I'm kind of hoping to find a few more of those Formica francoeuri queens.

I'm watching Wundermap, depending on what happens, I'm thinking maybe Pinyon Pines, Edwards AFB or Rainbow Basin on Saturday. Not the ideal day, but more to get myself away. I've been spending too much of my vacation week doing work.

Saturday is going to be quite cold still. Temps should jump up almost 10 degrees from Saturday to Sunday, so Sunday makes much more sense. Wow right now they're forecasting two inches of rain in Mt. Baldy.
Has anyone every been up east of Newhall Ranch in Piru along the E Telegraph Road? They are getting DUMPED on tonight. That system has come east along Santa Clarita and hit Vazquez Rocks too. If it weren't for Mother's Day I might start early out towards Piru and meet up with you guys in the desert.
I saw that earlier. The ghettos of LA are really getting it now.

Argentine lovers rejoice! I'm now thinking of heading up towards Vasquez on Saturday. Maybe I'll get lucky and find some earlybirds. At least I can mill about Vasquez Rocks so it won't be a wasted day if I come home empty handed.

It's possible something could fly there, so long as they fly in the afternoon. It's forecast to almost reach 70 degrees. Sunday however, is forecast to be almost 80 degrees.

I was planning on a trip to here this weekend after the rain.
Lots of agriculture in this area, I actually have an avocado farmer that I work with right in filmore. If you head to either filmore or lake piru, you'd be more in the wilderness while the valley is farmed and/or pesticide use is maybe a concern. I'm going to head out that way from the 23 on sunday
An emergency came up and my day got screwed so I doubt I'll be heading anywhere this weekend. My friend did say she saw males (or alates?) poking out of Pogonomyrmex nests at Whittier, so maybe I'll take a look around the park tomorrow.

No rain really hit the desert, but the coastal cities and the mountains got quite a bit. I think I'm gonna be checking out Mt. Baldy and the Lytle Creek area Sunday. Maybe even Phelan.

Ever thought of Mt. Wilson? I'd love to take a trip up there but I doubt I'll have time. Maybe Sunday afternoon... maybe.
I'm thinking about the Pogonomyrmex my friend saw getting ready to swarm, it seems a tad early in summer and today was not warm. Do males ever swarm prematuraly?

Mount Wilson would probably be a good place Sunday. The weather conditions there will probably be about the same as where I'll be going.
Pogonomyrmex males will pop their heads out of nests for a while before the finally decide to fly.

Any idea if we're talking hours before, day before, days before? All of the above?
