I thought I would start this journal because I think it has a higher chance of survival than my Myrmica queen at this point. I keep her in a vial with some sand in it. She made a pretty big chamber and closed of the entrance. I don't see any eggs yet as I only caught her I think 4 days ago. Edit: She also hates light so no pics for now.

She has a small batch of eggs! EGGS!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!! I didn't expect them so soon!

She seems to be doing well. She always has her head practically on top of her eggs but doesn’t do anything with them,

I hydrated her nest and she moved her eggs so I cannot see them.

She moved her eggs back to where they were so I can see them.

When did you catch her. I have been searching for a queen of this species. Since the first warm day in Michigan I still haven't found any thought. Where about do you live.

They would've flown today if it was nice out. The temp was perfect (71 degrees F). Too bad it was storming.

She loves to care for her eggs despite me disturbing too often. I heard they usually abandon their eggs if disturbed too often. Maybe it has something to do with where they found their colonies. (Test tube or dirt)

I think she has small larvae now. I only think this because the brood is more yellow than before. Also the brood is a little longer than just eggs.

She is doing great. I don’t think she has larvae but the eggs seem longer.

I made a grave mistake. I got test tubes from a friend and tried to move her into one. When I was carefully taking the sand out of the vial I crushed her abdomen. I feel so sad and disappointed. I am going to try to get Formica later this year.
