Hey All,

So glad I found this site! I've learned so much just today! :D I just collected an entire colony of Camponotus from a rotten tree cookie that had to be cleared out. Posted some great pics my friend took in the ID forum!

Welcome to the forum and this crazy hobby! I’m in NOVA, so we probably have the same types of ants around. In fact, I found four C. chromaiodes queens after their flight Thursday.

Thanks! Yeah this is kinda fulfilling a life long dream! I kept ant farms when I was a kid but had no idea I could actually obtain queens until recently.

Thanks! Yeah this is kinda fulfilling a life long dream! I kept ant farms when I was a kid but had no idea I could actually obtain queens until recently.

 

That's how it was for me. When I was young I'd just grab ants and toss them into a container and hope for the best. But then I stumbled upon a forum like this (an older one from a time long gone), and I've been hooked ever since!
