I've been wondering about this myself for a while since the only couple of times i found a camponotus species queen flying is kind of at twilight or night...So do they rly fly at night or before night a little or where those just lefover queens from earlier...Example species:camponotus vagus and camponotus lateralis

The Camponotus sp. queens I have collected have always been at night, so I'm willing to bet they fly either a bit before or then. You could also look at the Queen Ant Spotting/Mating Chart that is right on the home page.

From what I hear from other ant-keepers, they usually fly a little before the night, at dawn, or sometimes in the afternoon as well. Queens come out at night to look for a place to nest.

I'm aware of the month at wich they fly.But ikd its rly weird to me that they fly at night...Because even if they do,its not true for all camponotus.I've seen c.vagus fly on youtube at day aswell so it seems its nor even the same at a species levelThe Camponotus sp. queens I have collected have always been at night, so I'm willing to bet they fly either a bit before or then. Could one use a UV light setup to catch them, and would it attract queens thay have already shed their wings?

Seems to me, the times of nuptial flights vary by locale, species, and weather. Last May over the course of a week, I found 5 C. pennsylvanicus queens on warm, humid days 24-48 hours after it had rained. This year I’d like to find C. americanus or C. chromaiodes. From what I’ve read, they fly toward dusk. I’m planning to use a UV light and a sheet in the evening to lure them.
