Hi,

my ff culture has gotten moldy, as it was my first attempt at making a homemade culture. Can I still boil the flies and feed it to my ants?
Thanks.

Also, what's stopping me from using raw (ripe) fruit, why does it have to be a media?

I think your flies should definitely be fine to use if you boil them. Not sure about the fruit thing, but I suspect that would mold even quicker. My house is infested with fruit flies at the moment, so I'm literally just swatting them out of the air- Karate Kid style- for my colonies. It's probably time for me to go back to work, lol.

If you have a high budget, the mold inhibitor methylparaben works. If you have a low budget, cinnamon works. I use vinegar, cinnamon and potato flake/water mix in my ff medium.
