Dearest Formiculture members,
A few of you may have noticed the 'Antsylvania Ant Adoption' subforum tag under the 'Market' section of Formiculture.com. Thanks for stopping by!
As have I clarified in a related thread, I don't plan on selling directly through Formiculture as a primary platform; I do have a website and am associated with the Global Ant Nursery, as well. The intent of the Formiculture presence of Antyslvania was to invite educated perspectives from experts and experienced hobbyists to complement the consumer-driven sides of things. This way, I'll get traffic from both AntsCanada GAN customers and more involved, experienced hobbyists from Formiculture.
So what are our plans for Antsylvania?
As of now, both Bracchymyrmex and I are in the process of applying to college, and will likely be moving far from home fairly soon. We have a couple options, at this point. First, we can try to establish a national distribution system, comparable to a franchise, which would allow Antsylvania farmers to sell to customers in their own states. I created a thread about this earlier that eventually imploded; I may recreate that thread in this subforum.
We could also go the formicarium route. As our profits start to increase, we'll be looking for "investment opportunities"; a 3D-printer is looking more and more promising. If we raise enough to purchase a decent quality 3D-printer, we'll start experimenting with different designs until we develop a formicarium that's unique, effective, and marketable. This is obviously a little while away, but it's becoming more and more of a viable option as we move on. If we can somehow design a system to run the business remotely, whether it be a distribution system or a formicaria manufacturing gig, we most definitely will.
