So I have acquired two M. tenuinodis queens as of late and both are in test tubes with fine quartz sand...my question is am I better off founding them in these tubes or in some mini hearths?

If these are the tenuinodis that Oldmantrashcan got from me and he shipped them to you, then yes leave them as they are. Put them in a dark place, give them some heat, and leave them alone for at least a month. Don't look or cause any disturbance or vibrations. I'm not sure how much the shipping affected them. I do know most of them already had some eggs when he picked them up.
