I saw these foraging today while out roaming around. This worker is easily 10mm. Nest was just a hole, no mound or nothing, very inconspicuous.

Found in Arizona, Apache Junction, on relatively flat desert land. I didn't have my macro lens or ruler with me.

I believe you might be right, it does have the small spine sticking up out of its thorax. I captured one in case you guys needed more pics or better pics.

Yes, they are some of my favorite species. I'm almost certain these are Novomessor cockerelli. I believe these queens are semi claustral, and are found on nights after monsoons that are warm in July.

Yes, they are some of my favorite species. I'm almost certain these are Novomessor cockerelli. I believe these queens are semi claustral, and are found on nights after monsoons that are warm in July.
