On AntMaps, it shows that the Trap-jaw Ant Odontomachus brunneus has been collected in Savanna, Georgia, which is right on the border of South Carolina and Georgia. I'm guessing that since they have been collected pretty much right on the border, that they also live in South Carolina, and this summer, I have an opportunity to find some, when I go to that area, and since I will still be in South Carolina, I will be able to keep them and have a colony of actual Trap-jaw Ants! I have had Trap-jaws before, but from a different genera, Strumigenys, specifically Strumigenys louisianae, but they didn't last long as I left them without water for a few hours, and they all died, but if I can find some of these, hopefully they will last longer. I have kept Ponerines before, Brachyponera chinesis, and they are pretty hardy, and an even larger species should be even more so. I hope that I will be able find some of these and keep them alive!
