If I ever find multiple polygynous queens I might try this.

Here are some pics from my colony started in 2019 with multiple queens. They are in two test tubes within an inception nest from Tarheal ants.

My two queens, Bil and Hjuki continue kicking butt. They're cranking out so many workers, it's like an instant colony. Feeding them in their tube became impossible, so I gave them a BoxBox container outworld on Saturday. Here is a photo of their first big feeding response. That's a small cricket leg for size reference.

I'm hoping to get an inception chamber or something similar for them soon.

Update 9-7-2020

My dual queen Monomorium continue to do well. They have maybe 40 workers now, and are still living in a test tube. I do have an Inception Chamber on order for them, though. They've accepted all the feeder insects I've offered, and they enjoyed some egg yolk as well. They are really slow moving and it takes them a lot longer than my other species to find and recruit to a food source.

Really neat little ants.

I've seen these guys on bindweed flowers and on silphium flowers (silflower/ perennial sunflower). I think they were looking for nectar and not pollen. They are not very hairy so i don't think they play much of a role in pollinating but i still find it interesting. The video below was taken on august 20th, 2020.

My dual queen colony continues to do great. They are currently at 40+ plus workers with a big pile of well-fed larvae. They are enjoying all the feeder insects I've been offering them. One interesting thing they did is plugging up the already tiny entrance hole to their tube with bits of trash to make it even tighter. They should hit 100 workers once all their brood ecloses.

Look for them mid-July after heavy rainstorms. They fly late morning.

Exactly. I found my queens on 7/21 after heavy rainstorms.

Update 10-15-2020

This colony has really taken off now, and they've been a lot of fun. They are still in their original test tube, but the cotton is getting pretty black. I hope to move them before I put them into diapause. I estimate that the colony has over a hundred workers now. Their feeding swarms are getting much bigger, too.

I finally got an Inception chamber for them from THA. I'm not sure if I'll move them in yet or not, though. It would be a lot easier to just hibernate them in a test tube, but the Inception chamber is so cool. The foraging area is way bigger than I expected. I could easily fit test tubes in here.

I definitely recommend this species despite their tiny size.

I would keep them if they didn't break into all my stuff, i just ordered 5 outworlds from ant keeping depot. ant shack outworlds and they broke in because there was like a 0.5 mm gap between one piece of the connection and they got in and killed 2 of my crematogaster workers and then ate me crickeys!

Sounds like you should set all your formicariums over a tray of water.

I just ordered like 4 things from THA too and one of them was a inception chamber, how big would you say is the nest in it? Or about how many crematogaster workers would fit in it. Once my crematogaster colony outgrows the nest I plan on putting like 4 test tubes in.

The nest is pretty small. That’s a normal size Swiss Army knife next to it for scale. I’m not sure how well it would work for Crematogaster long term, to be honest.

the inception chamber is not good for a rapidly growing colony.
