There are zero good ant-keeping books, but lots of great books about ant biology. Journey to the Ants had the biggest impact on me.
Get the books from a good library.

I’m currently reading Ways of the Ant by John Crompton. It was written in 1954, so a lot of the info is dated, eg, they didn’t really understand pheremone communication yet. I really like the book, though, mainly for his humorous writing style that’s totally not politically correct. His little micro-aggressions sprinkled throughout the book have me cracking up as I read. The few illustrations are super cool as well.

Speaking of "The Ants", has anybody read the other book of the same title? Well, in French it's Les Fourmis, English translation is Empire of the Ants, written by Bernard Werber. This one is fiction (sciency fictiony) and if my memory serves me (and it may well not be the case, since it's been at least 25 years since I've read it) it's a decent casual read, but may be unpalatable to those that are more knowledgable and seek scientific accuracy.

Empire of the Ants was a really fun sci-fi novel! I definitely recommend it. You just need to remember that it’s fiction, not a biology textbook.

I would also recommend that beyond books are scientific publications such as those through

There are many fascinating research publications out there and it is in them that the details of knowledge and current understandings will be found

I have Journey to the Ants, which I highly recommend, and at the very end there is a protein/sugar supplement recipe for ants. Has anyone who owns the book tried it?
