They are various sizes. The one above is 3 mm

Pretty sure they are Camponotus

Vicinus seems to be what they are I’d say.
Queen still buried in workers and I don’t want to disturb. There would be ants all over my counter lol

 I have another question

Should I take the young queen who just removed her wings a few days ago, and put her in a test tube with some workers so she can start her own colony?

I don't want her or the queen to kill each other,or be killed by the workers.

If so, how many workers?  What sizes?

She has died overnight.

What is the largest worker in mm? If one is 3mm, I'm quite sure this is not vicinus.

There are no Camponotus that are 3mm in Alberta. I think you may need to revise your measurements. Even my Tetramorium workers are as long or longer than that.

These are massive compared to my tetramorium.

Most of these workers are between 3-4 cm

Queen is still hidden by the all workers laying on top of her.

The alate has died

I’d be extremely surprised if they were actually 3-4mm. My size 12 font in Century Gothic on paper would be that length. Tetramorium are 3-4mm so there’s something off here.

I edited my above post from 3-4 mm to 3-4 cm.

Going on no sleep.  Sorry for the confusion

It's confusing, is the ruler metric or imperial? There's only 5 divisions, so if metric each small dash is 2mm, meaning that the ants are around 8mm to 10mm. If imperial then up to 1" meaning between 2 and 2.5cm. I'm confused, what sort of ruler doesn't have a dash to denote halfway between one whole number and the next?

Thanks so much DaveJay.  I am going thru a rough patch loosing a much beloved kitty yesterday.

Yes, the divisions then represent 2 mm each.

So the workers range between 8-10 mm
