Hi a friend of mine caught this and sent it to me due to her not laying any eggs thought maybe I could get her to somehow. I figure best place to start is with an ID. She's in a closed nest so I can't truly measure her but she seems about 10mm give or take one or two. Also if you think you might have a reason as to why she might not have laid any eggs in a month's time in captivity don't hesitate to spill the knowledge.

After comparing and such if your friend lives in Georgia its either a Formica sp. in the pallidefulva group, or if your friend lives elsewhere (eg. California), it could (although unlikely) be a species of Myrmecocystus. And by the way, if your friend does live in another state, shipping ants across state lines is illegal.

Looks like Formica sp. to me. 

 

Probably something in the pallidefulva group.
