i like to give themt a layer of fine sand for moisture, but I don't give them enough to actually burrow, so they often just make a clearing in the sand and plop their fungal pellets in.

that way I can keep humidity up with little issue, no real concern with collapses, and even if it does it won't entomb anyone or damage the fungus.
