This seems to be a queen ant, who I found on May 1
Found: on pavement, wandering around my 'hood, 9 am
Tucson, Arizona (Sonoran desert)
Non-aggressive
No sign of an ant mound, but my neighborhood is crawling with Forelius (we also have acromyrmex, myrmecocystus, novomessor in good numbers)
Gaster is half reddish brown, tapering to black
Head is black
Body is light reddish, nearly honey colored
Long antennae that are black in the first segment, then red in the outer segment
Between 3/8ths and 7/16ths of an inch
Very active
Smallish, round eyes
Sorry about the pic, I'm working on better ones!
