Found on 11/10/18
Tucson, AZ
Found next to a wash near the side of a busy street
The large colony is a hole in hardened earth (dirt/sand) with a ton of tiny plant debris around them, almost making a small carpet in the desert
Not particularly aggressive but not mellow like Myrmecocystus, spent most of its time over two days trying to escape … not aggressive like Novomessor or Pogonomyrmex
Appears to enjoy drinking prickly pear nectar
The color looks black outdoors in sunlight, but in the photos this ant looks brownish - same color over whole body
Size is between 2/8 and 3/8 of an inch … sorry there is no ruler but this little gal was fast
Has two small spines that appear to come off of back area - can see in pics
